Chaing Khong Port
On March 25, 2003, the Cabinet resolved to authorize the Port Authority of Thailand (PAT) to manage and operate Chiang Khong port,
which was officially put into service on December 1, 2003. The main purpose of the port is to facilitate and promote import-export border
trade between the 4 countries (China, Myanmar, Lao PDR and Thailand.
The port is a small river port in the Chiang Khong district adjacent to the Mekong River, facing Huoixai in Bokeo Province in Lao PDR.
The port primarily serves small ships and ferries from Lao PDR.

Berth facilities
The port has a concrete quayside terminal with a width of 24 meters and length of 108 meters. It was constructed to accommodate 3 – 5 motor vessels each
of 80-150 gross tonnage, at a time.
Port Facilities
The port has a small 10 wheel truck parking area and is able to accommodate 5-10 ten wheel trucks, at a time. The port has no facilities to load or discharges vessels.
All cargo operations are carried out using manual labor, mostly employed by the cargo owners.
As a lot of trucks carrying fuel are passing the port the port is equipped with some basic firefighting and oil spill equipment. At the entrance of the port a small
station has been installed with two dry powder fire extinguishers of 5 Kg, 2 shuffles, four buckets and a small quantity of sand to be used in case of a (minor) oil spill.
Port Services
The port offers a one-stop service, which includes the service of the following agencies: Chiang Khong customs, immigration, animal and plant quarantine restriction
office, public health office, food and drugs office, and the Marine Department
Connection to other transport networks
At the back of the port there is road linking Chiang Khong Districts with Chiang Sean. The 4th Thailand-Lao PDR Friendship Bridge is located 5 km south of
Chiang Khong City. The bridge links the Chiang Khong district of Chiang Rai in Thailand with Huay Sai town and Bokeo province in northern Laos. The bridge
is part of Route R3A of the North South Economic Corridor (NSEC) from Kumming and Bangkok. The bridge will help solve bottleneck problems of the long road
link between Thailand, Lao PDR and China, and partially Viet Nam, as well.

The port has no specific security measures in place

The port renders a 24-hour service
